Aindrais de Staic presents Seven Shades, a comedy storytelling extravaganza!

Aindrais de Staic presents Seven Shades, a comedy storytelling extravaganza!

From 8.00pm until 11:00pm

At Alice's Restaurant and Coffee Shop

5 The Moat Mall, Naas, Co. Kildare

€15

Aindrias has just enjoyed the last few months performing with the National Theatre of Ireland on their hit show “Jimmys Hall” and now returns to Kildare with his new creation Seven Shades. It details the plight of a young man who simply can’t stop acting the bollox! IT IS NOT AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL!!

Seven Shades of Shtax is about a man seeking life’s answers. Armed with a fiddle, a loop peddle and some epic stories, he tries to address his (many!) fundamental character defects. A storytelling experience with a difference, by de Staic, returns to Naas for more craic, after his summer stage success with the Abbey theatre in Dublin.

After it's sell-out run in the International Bar as part of Dublin Fringe Festival, and the Vodafone Comedy Carnival in Galway, the show, Seven Shades, visits Alice’s for its next outing.

Many of you will remember his previous show, The Man from Moogaga which toured widely and won a BAI award for its adaptation to radio when it was aired as a special broadcast on St. Patricks day earlier this year.

For anyone who enjoys a bit of comedic story-telling with plenty of music-making, and a ton of devilment, this special appearance at Alice’s Restaurant in Naas should not be missed!

On the night Aindrias will have support from another Irish act on the rise, Liam Oragh. Liam is a Dublin based Singer Songwriter - fun, alternative, edgy, original, (Lou Reed meets Damien Dempsey)- he comes from the same music school as Sinead O'Connor and Christy Dignam and is about to kick off a small Irish tour to promote his new album, 'Arguments against Insanity'. His song 'Hey Nelson' about wanting to inherit Nelson Mandela's Shirt Collection won the best song award at last year's Hardly Strictly Acoustic Festival in Naas! He’s no stranger to the plains of Kildare.

Laura Hyland (Clang Sayne) solo set at Alice's Restaurant Naas

Laura Hyland (Clang Sayne) solo set at Alice's Restaurant Naas

From 8:00pm until 10:00pm

At Alice's Restaurant

5 Moat Mall, Naas, Co. Kildare

Free Entry - Pass the Hat based

“A singular, defiantly independent voice in the lineage of Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, and Bjork." Cormac Larkin, The Irish Times.

Laura Hyland, the critically acclaimed singer with Clang Sayne, performs her only solo show as part of an eight-date tour, at Alices Restaurant, Naas, Co. Kildare.

Doors open 7:30pm
Free entry, but a hat will be passed.
BYO Wine & Beer. Glasses and opener provided.
Tea, Coffee & soft drinks available.

Merakindie is very proud to present an 8-date Clang Sayne Autumn Tour around the country later this month, during which they will hijack the ears of all and sundry with renditions from their March album release, 'The Round Soul of the World'.

Currently based in Ireland, the group features Laura on voice and guitar, Judith Ring on voice and cello, Matthew Jacobson on drums and voice, and Carolyn Goodwin on bass clarinet and voice.

They independently released their new album, 'The Round Soul of the World' in March 2017.

Clang Sayne was formed by Laura Hyland in London in 2008 to fuse myriad influences spanning folk song, sound art and literature into a soundworld she describes as 'songscape'. Reviewers have dubbed it an "an uncategorizable approach to songcraft" and "exhilarating in its refusal to conform".

Former London incarnation of the group featured Peter Marsh on double bass, James O Sullivan on electric guitar and Matthew Fisher on drums, with whom Laura recorded and independently released the debut Clang Sayne album, 'Winterlands' in September 2009. The single, 'A Death and a Vision' featured on the Wire Magazine's Tapper cd in October 2009, and the album was subsequently re-released on Forwind Records in April 2010 to international critical acclaim.

"[Winterlands] revealed the spellbinding poetic lyricism of Hyland’s songwriting, together with the group’s innate ability to channel their diverse influences (jazz, folk, sound art, traditional) into their own distinct sound. Their captivating sound and thrilling lyricism continue to expand and flourish on the band’s follow-up, “The Round Soul Of The World”. Released in March of this year, the group’s second album is a stunning achievement in distilling myriad themes (chiefly those of mortality, death and love) in such a quietly breathtaking and poignantly moving way. Maria Doyle Kennedy

Maria Doyle Kennedy returns to Kildare.

From 8:30 until Late

At Alices Restaurant

5 Moat Mall, Naas, Co. Kildare

€25

Maria Doyle Kennedy returns to Kildare.

Singer, filmmaker, star of recent Irish movie Sing Street and Downtown Abbey returns to Alice’s Restaurant in Naas for a rare intimate performance on Saturday July 02.

Together with her husband Kieran Kennedy she runs a small independent record label (Mermaid Records) and they have released 7 albums to date.

In May 2014 Doyle Kennedy featured on the album “Printer Clips” with Paul Noonan, Joan As Policewoman and Martha Wainwright amongst others.

Recent acting credits include Orphan Black (for which she won 2 Canadian Screen Awards). Most recently she completed filming on Jupiter Ascending and A Thousand Times Goodnight which won the Special Jury Prize at the Montreal festival.

Sing released in 2012 features duets with Damien Rice, Paul Brady and John Prine. Hot Press described Sing as “Maria’s Masterpiece”. Inarguably Sing is her most accomplished and accessible work yet, a celebration of “the power of the voice, the sound a group of people can make when lifting their voices together – the human act of singing”.

Maria’s last two albums have demonstrated her evolving artistry. The Storms Are On The Ocean (2011) placed her in the Elizabethan world of haunting folk tales and murder ballads. 2007’s Mutter was inspired by Chuck Palahniuk’s novel, Diary, about a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown, while her solo bow with Charm is an album that encompassed everything from unadulterated rock’n’roll to left-field Americana, with the kind of lyrical sensibility that suggested Lorca rewriting creepy Eastern European fairytales.

In 2004, she set up Mermaid films specifically to make a documentary called “Golden Boy” about the artist Patrick Scott who is often referred to as the father of Modernism in Irish painting. Maria has also starred as Katherine of Aragon, nanny to the son of a serial killer and the estranged wife of the lovely Mr Bates from the three award-winning television series, The Tudors, Dexter and Downton Abbey.

Earliest musical influences include Billie Holiday, Patti Smith, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, The Wizard of Oz film and episodes of Wonderwoman.

Having shared stages with the likes of Snow Patrol, Hothouse Flowers and many more, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Kieran Kennedy make a welcome return to the intimate surrounds of Alice’s Restaurant on Saturday, July 02.

Tickets are priced at €25. Doors 9pm. All tickets available from Alice’s Restaurant, 5 Moat Mall, Naas or call 045 888227/ 0878073779 for bookings.

American Singer/Songwriter Michelle Lewis

Music night with American singer songwriter Michelle Lewis

From 8.15 pm until late

At Alice's Restaurant

5 Moat Mall Naas Co Kildare

€10.00

Michelle Lewis writes happy songs that bring tears, and sad songs that evoke smiles. Her music is rich with melody, and her lyrics seek beauty in the face of sadness. Too refined to call folk and too personal to call pop, as a singer/songwriter Michelle's music is uniquely intimate, and surprisingly polished. As a storyteller, she writes intensely visual songs that explore the emotional remainders in burgeoning and breaking relationships.

Michelle Lewis picked up her father's acoustic guitar at the age of 14 and quickly abandoned interest in everything else. She honed her songwriting at Berklee College of Music in her hometown of Boston, and went on to tour the United States behind her first album, This Time Around (2004). She has been a long time collaborator with producer Anthony J. Resta (Elton John, Duran Duran, Shawn Mullins). Their work has included the release of her Broken (2009) and Paris (2011) EPs, and most recently her second full-length album, The Parts Of Us That Still Remain (2014), with songs co-written by Nashville favorite Robby Hecht and LA sound designer Conan Skyrme.
